City’s top crime suspects arrested  

as DCPS posts 92% crime solution rate  

The city’s number one and number three most wanted persons were finally arrested after three years of manhunt operation by the joint operatives of the Dagupan Police Station and NBI Dagupan. The top wanted murder suspects were Rodel “itiw de Guzman and Roel Fernandez. 

The arrest of the two suspects is part of the improved crime solution efficiency of the Dagupan City Police Station that posted 91.66% efficiency rate compared to last year’s 78.08%, marking a 13.58% increased in the solution of crimes for the period covering January 1 to April 30, 

Police Chief Edgar Basbas said that there was a decreased in the incidents of crime that happened during the first quarter of the year after the city police started to intensify their action in their anti-crime strategies and crime prevention efforts.

Fernandez takes over as Fire Marshal
Chief Insp. Armando Fernandez is the fire marshal of the Dagupan City Fire Station (DCFS) succeeding C/Insp. Manuel Manuel effective April 28, 2006.
Manuel is now designated as the regional chief logistics officer of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Fernandez, who hailed from San Carlos City, Pangasinan, held various positions prior to his designation as Dagupan’s fire marshal.   
He was the former provincial fire marshal of La Union from 2004 to April 2006 and was the concurrent regional chief administrator and the provincial chief operations officer of the BFP.

1 million people attend ‘Kalutan ed Dagupan’

Some 1 million participants partook the world renowned Dagupan bangus, and celebrated in a grandest street party until the break of dawn during the Kalutan ed Dagupan-Bangus Sa Lansangan, the culminating event of the Bangus Festival 2006, on April 30, which marked another remarkable success to the annual festivity.

The revelry commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the grills led by Mayor Benjamin S. Lim, Vice-Mayor Alvin Fernandez, Bangus Festival 2006 Chairman Nick Aquino, Coun. Joey Tamayo and Coun. Vladimir Mata, together with some guests, which included US consuls James Greene and Machut Shishak, Zamboanga City delegation led by Mayor Celso Lobregat, Baby Arenas and daughter Rachel, and the Pinoy Big Brother celebrity edition housemates Aleck Bovick, Roxanne Barcelo and Gretchen Malalad.

Longest Bangus Winner is the New Record Holder

A 4 year-old Dagupan bangus breaks all other record after it measures a length of 90.500 centimeters in this year’s Bangus Rodeo, one of the major events of Dagupan Bangus Festival.

According to Mrs. Sonia Yao, Vice-President for Internal Affairs of the Dagupan Bangus Jaycees and co-chairman of this year’s Bangus Rodeo, the current holder of the title measures 87 centimeters in length.

The new record holder bangus is the entry of Modesto Dalmacio. Other winners in the category are Alejandro Figuerres whose bangus entry measures 86 centimeters. Coming in third is the entry of Pedro Velasco which measures 71.2 centimeters.

In the Heaviest Bangus Division, Dalmacio hits another win when his entry weights a heavy record of 6.024 grams to the delight of the spectators including Mayor Benjamin Saplan Lim who stays long to watch the whole activity.

Accountant Student Wins 101 Ways to Cook Bangus Cookfest

An accountant and a determined student won in the just concluded 101 Ways to Cook Bangus held at the Malimgas Public Market.

Mrs. Dalia Daroya an accountant by profession of Caranglaan, Dagupan City emerged as the over-all champion this year after winning the Appetizer Category, Main Entrée and Pastry Categories.

Daroya is the winner in the soup category and a 3rd placer in the bibingka making contest in last year’s 101 Ways to Cook Bangus. But after winning almost all the major categories, her joining the competition again is worth it as she comes home very happy with twenty thousand pesos cash prize. Aside from the cash prize, Daroya also received a set of cooking wares from one of the major sponsors of the event. Her winning dishes are bundled ginger bangus and spinach bangus macaroons.

The public is advised to refrain from harvesting or gathering, transporting, marketing and eating shellfish from the coastal waters of Bolinao and Anda, Pangasinan as the two areas are found positive of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) caused by red tide organisms.

This is based on the shellfish advisory no. 01-06 and shellfish bulletin no. 07 both dated April 13, 2006 of the Department of Agriculture and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources regional offices.

City Mayor Benjamin S. Lim, thus, directed the city agriculture office to put in place strict monitoring system in the public markets of Dagupan.

“Fishes harvested from the said areas are however safe for human consumption provided they are fresh and washed thoroughly and their internal organs, such as gills and intestines, are removed before cooking,” the advisory said.
